Based on the vintage APSI 562 EQ and reengineered for the modern engineer, the API Audio SV14 is a 4-band EQ module designed for 500-series racks. Each of the four bands offers continuously variable parametric frequency and gain control via two concentric control knobs per band, delivering ±12 dB of boost or cut per band.

Each band sports a parametric peak/dipping configuration. The SV14 offers up to 24 dB of headroom before clipping, letting you handle a wide range of signals. The module provides an illuminated EQ In switch for bypassing the EQ. The SV14 features transformer-balanced output for 500-series enclosures.

Based on a Vintage APSI Design

The design of the SV14 circuitry is not entirely new. For a brief period in the late ’70s and early ’80s, an audio company called APSI manufactured consoles and equalizers. The APSI 562 was a 4-band parametric equalizer, which was made by APSI but sold through API.

The 562 has remained on the favorites list of a number of studio engineers over the years. Faithfully updated and reengineered, the API Audio 562 delivers a nearly impossible-to-find EQ circuit at an attractive price point.

EQ Controls

Each band offers 12 dB of boost or cut with dedicated dual-concentric frequency and level controls per band:

• Low band with 20 to 200 Hz adjustment
• 100 Hz to 1 kHz control for mid-low frequency band
• 500 Hz to 5 kHz adjustment range for mid-high band
• High-frequency band with a 2 to 20 kHz frequency range
